What is a Performance Review?
A performance review, sometimes called a performance appraisal or performance evaluation, is a planned way for an employer to look at and give feedback on an employee’s work over a certain time period.
This test is meant to find out what the employee has contributed, what they have done well, and what they could do better. Performance reviews are important for both personal and professional growth. They are also used to decide on things like promotions, pay raises, and training needs.
What is a 30-60-90 Day Review?
A 30-60-90 day review is a performance review process typically used for new employees. It outlines expectations and goals for the first 30, 60, and 90 days on the job. This helps ensure the new hire is on track and identifies any early issues.
You can use Someka Performance Review formats to monitor the 30-60-90 day reviews of your employees.
Alternatively, you can conduct 9 Box Grid Assessments to measure the performance and potential levels of your team.
How to use Performance Review Excel Template?
Basically, the first table of the performance appraisal form provides basic information about the employee that you (or the HR team) should fill out. Furthermore, it will provide a snapshot of employee background that can help guide a better evaluation.
All you need to rate your employee’s performance factor at a time considering that factor only. So, you can input “X”, “OK”, A, B, C, or whatever you would like to add.
Please do not forget that you should only rate one performance factor, otherwise the performance review template will warn you like this:
After completing your employee’s performance review, the template will calculate the overall points and final performance accordingly. Furthermore, on the right-hand side, you can change the metrics and the point range on the Settings Table easily.
It also includes some side notes which will help you to enhance your review. Finally, there is a section for comments or employee signatures that you can include. You can write down your final notes in this section and print them as a form.
How to Make a Performance Report in Excel?
- Collect Data: Get all the information that you need, like sales numbers, project completion records, attendance logs, and so on.
- Define performance metrics: Set your KPIs for performance evaluation
- Organize the Data: Put the information into an Excel spreadsheet. Give each type of information its own column, like employee names, performance metrics, and dates.
- Analyze: Use charts and graphs to analyze your data.
With Someka Performance Review Template, you can just define your performance metrics and then fill out forms for employees.
How Do You Calculate Performance Review?
Performance review is calculated according to your scale set beforehand. For example, you can give 1-5 points for poor, unsatisfactory, satisfactory, good and excellent performance in order. Then you can calculate total performance score by getting the sum of all points given to each performance metric.
If you want to get the team’s total score, just sum up all the performance review scores and divide it by the team number.

This tool and KPI tools serve different purposes:
- This template is ideal for comprehensive individual performance reviews
- KPI tools are better for tracking specific, measurable metrics over time
Choose based on your needs: individual assessments (this tool) or ongoing metric tracking (KPI tool)
While this tool streamlines scoring, effective employee evaluation goes beyond numbers:
- Align metrics with business goals
- Use a balanced scorecard approach
- Combine quantitative scores with qualitative feedback
- Ensure consistency across evaluators
- Use insights to drive decisions on promotions, training, and compensation
Remember, the tool facilitates the process, but your strategic interpretation of the data is what truly impacts business performance.

Hi Anson,
Thank you for your kind words.
Let me explain how to change your conditional formatting settings:
After being sure that your sheet is unlocked, go to Home > Conditional Formatting > Manage Rules.
Select Worksheet from the dropdown to see all the rules, then select the rule you want to edit and click on Edit Rule.
On the Edit Formatting Rule window click on the Format button and then in the Format Cell window under the Fill area you’ll select the color you want to apply before clicking on OK.
Hope this helps!
